A real estate developer has a unique offer for eco-conscious Torontonians: buy a condo with a parking space fitted with an electric vehicle charging station and get a free electric car to go along with it.
The first 20 purchasers of a condo in the new Bside at Minto Westside development in downtown Toronto will get a new Nissan LEAF EV at no extra charge, the company said in a press release late October.
“Installing EV chargers at Bside gives residents who want a vehicle in the city the ability to make an affirmative environmental decision,” explained Wells Baker, director of conservation and sustainable design for Minto.
“That alone is a huge step forward, but we wanted to take that next step and actually incentivize a decision towards the more sustainable option.”
Minto is building an electrical transformer into its Bside development (rendering below) specifically to handle electric vehicle charging, something most other high-rise buildings haven’t done, and is also blocking off space for additional EV chargers in anticipation of future demand.
Offering condo buyers a free Nissan LEAF, Canada’s best-selling all-electric car, is something else no other company has done in Toronto, either.
“Accessible charging is an important consideration when people are looking at buying an electric vehicle and is especially challenging for those living in a condominium or apartment,” Steven Rhind, director of marketing at Nissan Canada, said in the release.
Bside is the second phase of the Minto Westside condo development at Bathurst and Front Streets in downtown Toronto. The 20-storey tower will feature 323 suites with prices starting in the low $200,000 range, with occupancy slated to begin in 2018.
